Jaycee Park in Cape Coral Reopens with Waterfront Upgrades, 50th Anniversary Celebration, and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

One of Cape Coral’s most talked-about waterfront projects is officially complete.

Recently, Jaycee Park in Cape Coral has reopened to the public after a major renovation and red ribbon cutting ceremony. Residents, business owners, community members, and local officials attended the event. Together, they celebrated the next chapter of this longtime Cape Coral park along the Caloosahatchee River.

At the ceremony, Mayor John Gunter led the ribbon cutting event. He was joined by current and former city council members, Cape Coral Parks and Recreation staff, local business owners, and residents. In addition, speakers highlighted the importance of preserving shared public spaces while continuing to invest in parks, recreation, and waterfront access.

In addition, the reopening also marked Jaycee Park’s 50th anniversary. This created a strong sense of nostalgia and celebration. Staff and city representatives wore colorful “50 and Fabulous” shirts. Meanwhile, “Jaycee Park Got a Glow Up” stickers added a festive touch to the morning event.

The redesigned Jaycee Park in Cape Coral now features a raised waterfront walkway and expanded ADA-accessible pathways. It also includes shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, volleyball courts, open green space, and a large splash pad for families and children. As a result, these upgrades support urban-style recreation with space for events, fitness, and waterfront walks.

Meanwhile, families also explored the Cape Coral Fun-Mobile, a mobile recreation program from Cape Coral Parks and Recreation. It brings games, sports equipment, crafts, and activities directly into neighborhoods and community events.

Importantly, longtime residents appreciated that memorial park benches were preserved throughout the redesign. These benches, donated by local families, help maintain the park’s history within its modern layout.

At the same time, another local tradition continues at the park: painted rocks hidden throughout Jaycee Park. This kindness movement encourages visitors to paint, hide, and discover rocks around the park. As a result, many residents share their finds in Facebook groups such as “Cape Coral Rocks,” keeping the tradition alive and connecting the community through small surprises.

However, the renovation sparked discussion across Cape Coral. Many conversations focused on the removal of large Australian pine trees that once lined the waterfront.

While some residents missed the original natural canopy, others supported the changes. Overall, the updates improve safety, accessibility, storm resilience, and long-term growth.

Today, Jaycee Park in Cape Coral offers a refreshed experience while still preserving key features that locals value most. Visitors can enjoy waterfront sunsets, open river views, walking paths, and gathering spaces. These make the park a top destination for things to do in Cape Coral.
